I did that and the window titles etc. were dark, but I got some crashes in swt (I think NPEs) and the application was unusable.
I don’t know if this was caused by bugs in that beta version or if the behaviour of some APIs have changed in a documented way if this is set.
(I think when I tried, there was no API-update document available, maybe it is by now - haven’t checked since then)

The reason for this is not default is to avoid breaking existing applications. There are applications with hard coded colors which need to be updated to look good with the dark mode. The SDK provides dynamic colors which will change depending on the mode that is used. SWT might need to be updated as well.
There are several good videos from this year’s WWDC which covers dark mode and how to enable that for applications.

I've received screenshots from a user of SmartGit and it shows light controls and even a light (system) toolbar. Yesterday, I updated my MacBook Pro from macOS HS to macOS Mojave.


When I checked my Java version (10.0.2), the pane reported that it was outdated:



I clicked the Update Now button and some routine was started. At the end, I was asked whether I wanted to remove old Java versions, which I confirmed.


To my big surprise, Java was completely removed from the System Preferences pane. So I decided to re-install Java 10 manually.


As it turned out, Java 10 has been deprecated, so instead, I downloaded Java 11 from Oracle.

I ran the set up routine for Java 11 (twice), but to no avail: no Java was installed on my MacBook Pro.


(In the end I installed jre-10.0.2_osx-x64_bin.dmg from https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase10-4 425482.html, just to have Java 10.0.2 working again.)
